Resumen

This is the report of the study component of the Children and Violence Project, coordinated by the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security and UNICEF-Guyana and carried out in collaboration with Red Thread Women’s Development Programme.

The Children and Violence Project has been designed in three phases and monitored by an inter-sectoral advisory board, comprising representatives of related Ministriesorganisations, University of Guyana and UN agencies. This report gives the results of the first phase which involved interviews with a relatively small sample of children
countrywide. The second phase will see the installation of a child a Child Protection Monitoring System to track and protect children at risk while the third phase includes peace education, non-violent communication and conflict resolution initiatives together with the recently launched public education campaign which targets children, youths
and adults. As I write, this campaign Growing Up Without Violence has already been launched and work on the Data Monitoring System is continuing.
